Fifteen years ago while on holidays in Queensland, Ricky Baker saw his first kite shop and was not satisfied until he had purchased a small stunt kite. After a bit of perseverance he finally mastered that kite and started looking for the next step. A stack of four stunt kites was order from the same Queensland shop, but then to Rick's delight he discovered that Melbourne had not only kite shops, but kite Clubs. The stunt kite collection started to grow and after joining a local club, it did not take long for the Bakers to start flying competitively in Sport Kite Competitions. As their involvement grew so did their interest and their collection of kites. Today they have a large collection of kites which include, Single Line, Sport, Quadline, and occasional you may see Ricky in his Buggy. In 1993 Joanne was asked to give a talk for a school. Today she runs "Kites 4 Kids". She promotes all aspects of kites by running workshops and aerial Kite displays all over Melbourne and Country Victoria. The Bakers have attending many Kite Festivals all over Australia as well as representing Australia at International Sport Kite Events in Hawaii and France. They have also travelled to Hong Kong, Thailand, Yang Jing China, and Weifang China to represent Australia at International Events, mainly flying Single Line Kites. Along with Maggie Phillips they compete as Team "Positive Lift" and won the 1998 Australian Sport Kite Team Championships. The Team now fly HQ Kites made in Germany. Recent awards include:
